Kidnapping bid foiled
NEW DELHI: An attempt to kidnap the 14-year-old son of a Safdarjung Enclave businessman was foiled by an alert police constable near R.K. Puram here on Monday.
According to the police, Sumit Kumar, the 22-year-old son of an ex-Serviceman, and his accomplice Radhey Shyam befriended Anirudh Sharma, a Class IX student of Hill Grove Public School, and lured him into a car on the pretext of taking him out for a treat.
However, police constable Sanjay noticed a scuffle on the back seat of the car and chased the vehicle on his motorcycle. On being chased, the kidnappers threw the child out of the car and abandoned the vehicle. While Sumit was caught by the police, Radhey managed to escape.
The police said the kidnappers planned to demand Rs. 20 lakh in ransom from Anirudh’s father.
