Govt. failed in de-silting: BJP

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Jai Kishan Sharma, on Tuesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled civic body had failed miserably to complete de-silting of storm-water drains before the onset of the monsoon.

Addressing a press conference in Town Hall, Mr. Sharma said the BJP had made tall claims about completing de-silting work before the onset of the monsoon but the very first shower of the season exposed their claims.

Of the 1,265 storm-water drains, only 219 drains had been de-silted till June 25 and work was in progress in 901 more. “The work is not likely to be completed in another fortnight,” said Mr. Sharma, adding that de-silting work was yet to begin in the remaining 145 drains.

He alleged that not a single storm-water drain had been de-silted in Civil Lines Zone and only two drains had been cleaned in South Zone.
