Camp for prospective entrepreneurs

To create awareness of opportunities under PMRY

KOCHI: The Ernakulam district unit of Kerala State Small Industries Association (KSSIA) and Kerala State Industries Department will jointly hold a camp on July 16 at the KSSIA Hall for those wishing to start new enterprises under the PMRY scheme.

The camp will be held between 10 a. m. and 5 p. m. and is aimed at creating awareness of the new opportunities under Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana (PMRY), a self-employment scheme introduced nearly 15 years ago and which underwent significant changes this year.

Under the revised PMRY scheme, entrepreneurs can avail up to Rs.5 lakh without collateral to launch a manufacturing unit while those entering the services business can avail up to Rs.2 lakh.

Family income limit for those wanting to avail benefits under the revised scheme has been raised from Rs.40,000 to Rs.1 lakh.

Largest number

Industries Department sources said that Ernakulam had topped the districts in the State in providing assistance to the largest number of enterprises under the PMRY scheme during the last financial year.

The target for the district last year was 2,900 while actual assistance went to more than 3,000 enterprises.

The district has been given a target of 3,600 this year that is the highest target among the districts.

The number of PMRY beneficiaries in the State stood at 33,700 last year, up from the previous year’s level of 28,000.

Awards

Meanwhile, the Industries Department has invited applications for awarding entrepreneurs in the small-scale sector at the District and State level for their achievements. The awards will comprise certificates and prize money.

Award for the Best Entrepreneur at the State level will carry a prize money of Rs. 15,000 while the District levels the prize money will be Rs.7,500. Award for the Best Woman Entrepreneurs will carry Rs.10,000 in prize money at the State level and Rs.5,000 at the District levels. Award for the Best SC/ST Entrepreneur will carry prize money of Rs. 10,000 at the State level and Rs. 5,000 at the District levels.

All entrepreneurs in the small-scale and tiny sectors permanently registered with the Directorate of Industries and Commerce within five years preceding the year of the award and which have been in production for at least three years will be eligible for being considered for the awards.

All applications should reach The General Manager of the respective District Industries Centres on or before June 30, said information posted on the State Industries Department website.
