Thiruvananthapuram: The public and the railway personnel should unitedly fight against the move to privatise Indian Railways, Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran has said. Inaugurating a seminar on ‘Security of railways and privatisation’ organised by the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union-All India Railwaymen’s Federation here on Tuesday, he said privatisation of the railway catering and joint ventures and public-private partnership for the Rs.30,000-crore freight corridor were the first step in this direction. He said there was no justification for the privatisation when Union Minister for Railways Lalu Prasad claimed that he had made the railways profitable.
