Woman ends life over loan guarantor’s threat

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A 62-year-old woman P. Narayanamma allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the top of her house at Jubilee Hillls on Monday due to the ‘harassment’ by one Vijay who acted as guarantor for Rs. 5,000 loan she had availed. A widow, Narayanamma was running a tailor shop at Rahmathnagar. She has two sons -- Satyanarayana and Chandrashekhar -- and a daughter Padma. A year ago, Chandrashekhar secured a loan of Rs. 5,000 from a private finance company. They were supposed to clear the debt by paying Rs. 50 daily. The family suffered losses in the business and closed shop a few days ago. Recently, Vijay allegedly abused the woman for failing to repay the loan. On learning about her suicide attempt, Vijay once again came to her house and threatened her of dire consequences if she tried to evade the loan amount, the Jubilee Hills police said. Reportedly dejected over the threat, the woman jumped down from the top of her house and succumbed to injuries in a hospital.
