Government to provide furniture for schools built with NABARD assistance

SALEM: The State Government will provide tables, benches and other furniture for the school buildings constructed with financial assistance from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the newly-constructed buildings in Kullampatti and Chettipatti Government High Schools near here on Wednesday. The buildings were constructed at a cost of Rs. 87.46 lakh.

Efforts

The Minister said that concerted efforts would be made to create adequate infrastructure facilities in government schools. New classrooms and laboratories would be constructed.

The government has allotted Rs. 118 crore for providing computer education to the students. Steps were also being taken to improve the English language skills of students. These facilities were provided to ensure better study environment in government schools.

Transport facility

The government was also providing transport facility, noon-meal, uniforms and textbooks free of cost. Students should take full advantage of the government schemes to pursue their studies, the Minister said. He advised the students to strive hard to perform better in the SSLC examinations. Education was essential for the development of the nation, he stressed. Later, the Minister handed over free colour television sets to 1,919 beneficiaries belonging to Koneripati, Kaverypatti, Agraharam and Veerachipalayam villages. Deputy Speaker of State Assembly V.P. Duraisamy and Collector N. Mathivanan also spoke. Senior officials were present in the function.
