Violators to be arrested under the Goonda Act Public asked to cooperate with implementation of the ban order
Belgaum: As the Government has decided to go ahead with its decision to ban sale of arrack from July 1, the Belgaum district administration is gearing up to impose the ban strictly. Deputy Commissioner in-charge Vijaykumar N. Torgal asked the staff of the Excise Department to leave no stone unturned to implement a complete ban on arrack sale in the district. He held a meeting with the officials concerned in this regard on Tuesday. Mr. Torgal has directed the authorities, including officials of the Police and Revenue departments, to keep strict vigil on those violating the ban order and engaging in the sale or manufacture of arrack or illicit liquor. All such persons should be arrested under the Goonda Act, he said. Office-bearers of gram panchayats should be vigilant and inform the Excise or Revenue Department officials in case of any illegal activities. Mr. Torgal appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration in implementing the ban order. If they came across any violations, people could inform the Deputy Commissioner of Excise on Ph: 0831-2470838/9449597069; Excise Superintendent on Ph: 0831-2472056/9449597070, and Excise Superintendents of Ramdurg on Ph: 08335-243046/ 9449597074 and of Gokak on Ph: 08332-229333.
