Kakinada: A car rally will be organised here from July 16 to 18 to create awareness and interest among youth on the world military sports meet, according to G. Santhosh Kiran. Addressing a press conference along with District Revenue Officer M. Mohana Raju on Wednesday, Lieutenant Kiran said the meet would be organised at the Gachchibowli Stadium in Hyderabad from October 14 to 21. Sportsmen from the armed forces of one hundred countries were expected to participate in the event being hosted by the State government. A car rally would be organised from July 8 to 22 in major cities. Union Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallamraju would flag off the rally at Hyderabad, which would reach the district sports authority stadium here on July 16 after passing through Puttaparti, Kurnool, Kadapa, Nellore and Vijayawada. Santhosh said it would be a grand affair in Kakinada with many events planned on July 16 and 17 such as ex-servicemen rally, Army band display, sky diving, parasailing and cultural programmes by NCC cadets. He said that the Navy and Air Force rallies from Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam also would join the rally at Kakinada on July 17. The car rally would start at 8 a.m. on July 18 and reaches Hyderabad on July 22 after passing through Khammam and Basara. ‘Friendship through sports’ was the slogan of the rally. Mr. Mohana Raju said the administration was making arrangements for the rally and other programmes.
