Solve differences through talks, JD(S) workers told

Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE: Mahima Patel, Secretary General of the State Janata Dal (Secular) and special representative of Karnataka in New Delhi, called upon the Janata Dal (S) workers to shed their differences, if any, and strengthen the party.

Inaugurating a party workers convention at Jagalur on Tuesday, Mr. Mahima Patel said that it was natural for differences to crop up among leaders and party functionaries. He suggested that such differences should be sorted out through discussions. Leaders and workers should concentrate on organising the party, he said.

Those who are in politics do not have peace of mind owing to differences with their colleagues within the party and also their detractors in other parties, he said and called upon the workers to be prudent in their approach keeping in mind their health.

This followed a remark by H.S. Shivashankar, MLC and president of the Davangere district Janata Dal (S), who criticised some party workers who were allegedly creating confusion in the party by claiming that they were office-bearers of the district unit.

Mr. Shivashankar said that the party High Command had nominated him as president of the district unit but some self-declared party leaders were claiming that they were still the leaders of the party in the district.

Why had they not strengthened the party after all these years? he asked and said that they also did not like others to do so now.

K.B. Kallarudresh, president of the Jagalur taluk Janata Dal (S), presided over the meeting. N.G. Puttaswamy, district working president of the party, and Shakuntala Odeyar, president of the district women’s unit, addressed the meeting.
