Rural Board would provide funds for the removal of high-tension wires from colonies 20 p.c. amount from the Board to be provided for development of Harijan bastis
NEW DELHI: The Rural Development Board of the Delhi Government on Wednesday sanctioned Rs. 67 crore for 265 schemes at a meeting chaired by Development Minister Rajkumar Chauhan at Delhi Secretariat. Mr. Chauhan said the budget for rural development for 2007-08 is Rs. 125 crore and proposals for development works worth this amount have already been sanctioned. As such the Chief Minister has been requested to enhance the budget of the Rural Development Board to ensure all-round development of the Capital’s villages. The Minister said the Rural Development Board would provide the budget to remove high-tension wires from the colonies under the 20-point Programme. It was also decided to provide 20 per cent amount from the Board for development of Harijan bastis near the villages. Mr. Chauhan said the meeting also decided that the fund of Rs. 140 crore for Panchayats, which is with the Board, would be spent on rural development works. The Minister directed the officials of the Delhi Irrigation and Flood Control Department and the MCD to speedily implement the schemes finalised for rural development and said if need be more allocation would be made for them. The Minister also reviewed the process of installing mini sewage treatment plants and directed the Delhi Jal Board, the MCD and other departments concerned to speed up the work. He said special attention was being paid to development of parks, construction of community centres and chaupals, creation of ponds, development of crematoriums and building of roads in the rural areas. He also assured that Gram Sabha land would be freed of encroachments. .
