DDA told to prepare a record of all its land

Staff Reporter

Free Gram Sabha land from encroachments, directs L-G

NEW DELHI: Lieutenant-Governor Tejendra Khanna on Wednesday directed the Delhi Development Authority to prepare an inventory of all its land, fence the Gram Sabha land under it for protection, and utilise the same for various Government projects.

Mr. Khanna, who chaired a meeting of the DDA Board, asked the Authority to prepare an inventory of all its land within two months. The issue of the DDA not having an inventory was raised by MLA Mahabal Mishra.

Mr. Khanna also directed the DDA to free the Gram Sabha land from encroachments and to fence it so that it remains protected and can be used for various projects.

During the meeting, discussions were also held on various issues like adoption of new technology for construction of economically weaker section (EWS) houses considering the shortage of low cost houses and enhancing of construction margins so that strict quality controls and performance standards can be adhered to by contractors. The Lieutenant-Governor expressed his satisfaction over the action taken on various issues which were raised at the earlier DDA meeting. In fact, it was the first time on Wednesday that the Action Taken Report on the previous DDA meeting was presented at the Board meeting.

The meeting was informed that the DDA had planned to construct 50,000 EWS houses in the next five years using faster modes of construction like prefab construction technology on a turnkey basis and large panel pre-cast construction technology. These technologies have been successfully adopted in Mumbai and Pune and with it the new five-storey houses with frame structure and fly ash brick walls coming up in Dwarka, Narela and East Delhi would cost only Rs 10,000 to 12,000 per sq. metre.

The proposal regarding enhancement of construction margins was also taken up to facilitate strict quality, performance efficiency and time limits in construction works of the DDA by contractors. It had been felt that the manuals adopted by the DDA are quite old and not in consonance with the increased cost of construction, material and labour cost.
