Cabinet okays loan agreement for road project

Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal to allow the implementing agencies to generate revenue for improvement of slum clusters by commercially utilising part of the open land that would be available by constructing multi-storied buildings.

The Cabinet also expressed grief over the untimely demise of Minister of State for Forest Prakash Sonkar this past weekend. It recalled his services and described him as a dedicated, polite and soft-spoken person.

The Cabinet decided to delegate the powers to the State Housing and Environment department to regulate and permit land use change as well as grant exemption in floor area ratio (FAR). The housing units to be allotted under this scheme would be registered in the joint name of husband and wife, the Cabinet emphasized. The beneficiaries’ right to sell or transfer their housing units would also be regulated. Only in special circumstances would one be allowed to sell the ownership right after obtaining permission from the district Collector.

The Cabinet also approved the loan agreement, Institutional Development Action Plan and the Procurement Plan to acquire loan from the Asian Development Bank for the Madhya Pradesh Road Sector Project. The Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation is the implementing agency for the project. It has prepared detailed project reports for 22 highways (1628.52 km). The State Government has given administrative sanction for Rs. 1840 crore for the project. Tenders have also been issued and work on these roads is scheduled to begin in September this year.
