BANGALORE: It is that time of the year again when schools groom future leaders and bestow titles and the mantle of responsibilities on them. They are either chosen by the teachers or elected through the ballot to make them understand the democratic process. Investiture ceremonies are solemn and they begin with the ceremonial procession led by the respective school principals and the guests followed by the new leaders. Leaders take an oath to uphold the values of the school and carry them wherever they go. Later, guests as well as principals pin badges on the new leaders. Guests, in their address give them tips on how to become a good leader and also tell them to discharge their duties with courage and conviction. The ceremonies end with a retreat led by the respective school captains followed by other leaders. Advice
At the investiture ceremony held in A.V. Education Society, J.P. Nagar, retired Navy Commander Ramesh was the chief guest. He presented the colours to the elected leaders. In his address, he told the leaders to take part in extra-curricular activities that would help them to work in teams. He emphasised the need to be responsible citizens and good human beings to effective leaders. Amurtha S., was elected the school captain, while Vijayasimha T.J., the vice-captain. Santhosh K.R. and Naveen D. were elected games captain and vice-captain respectively. The investiture ceremony of the junior school of St. John’s High School was held recently. Nirmala Vasanthakumar, Presbyter of St. John’s Church, pinned the badges on the new leaders. Aksh Rinu and Jaanm Ruth are the school captains, while Lorenzo and Pratiksha were selected as the games captains. Flags of the school and various houses fluttered at the investiture ceremony held in New Public English School, Vijayanagar. Principal Rahamathunnisa administered the oath and pinned the badges on all the council members. She told them to be sincere, duty conscious and impartial as they were the future citizens of India, who would have reigns of their country in their hands. Prithviraj Harish is the head boy, while Meghana H. was sworn in as the head girl. On behalf of all the council members, the head boy promised to shoulder the responsibilities bestowed upon them to the best of their ability. As a token of its appreciation, the Bishop Cotton Girls’ High School, St. Mark’s Road, presented a scroll and a badge to its new student representatives at the investiture ceremony held recently. Neurologist Lt. Col. Varadarajulu was the chief guest. In his address, he emphasised values such as a good head to evaluate ideas, a compassionate heart, good spirit to hear God’s voice, a good eye to see what others cannot, a good hand to do things that need to be done and good feet to go the right way. Principal Princess Franklyn welcomed and introduced the guest to the gathering. Akanksha Sunil is the new school captain and Manuela Solomon the vice-captain. THE HINDU NIE TEAM
