Additional police security to be provided Special control rooms have been set up
PERAMBALUR: As many as 70 out of a total 427 cooperative societies that will go to four-phase polls from July 7 to 18 in the district, have been identified as ‘sensitive’ centres, based on the past track of incidents during elections in 1996, the Collector, Anil Meshram said.
Addressing media here on Tuesday, he said that additional police bandobust would be provided at these societies at the time of elections.
Mr. Meshram said that elections to 62 societies which have a large number of members and functioning in small buildings, would be held at schools or any public campus in the vicinity.
Special control rooms have been set up at the offices of the Regional Joint Registrar of Co-operatives here besides the Deputy Registrar’s offices in Perambalur and Ariyalur to attend to any emergency.
Enquiry into farmer’s suicide
The Collector said that an enquiry had been ordered into the alleged suicide committed by a farmer near Jayamkondam due to non-sanctioning of education loan for his son. The Revenue Divisional Officer is conducting the enquiry.
