Beach road repair from today

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Public Works T.U. Kuruvilla announced here on Wednesday that the State Government would repair a section of the Shanghumughom beach road that was damaged by coastal erosion over the last week.

The work will begin on Thursday.

The Minister made the announcement after inspecting the site. Thiruvananthapuram West MLA V. Surendran Pillai, who accompanied him, said a 750-metre-long stretch of the road, adjacent to the walkway, was heavily damaged by the waves. He said the damaged portion would need extensive repairs.

Mr. Kuruvilla said he had placed the repair project before the Cabinet for approval. It involved construction of a concrete retaining wall to check further erosion and shore up the road, the Minister added.
