NEW DELHI: Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy on Wednesday said that the Commonwealth Games Village, along the Yamuna, would be established according to the environmental specifications. Releasing a United Nations report on world population, Mr. Reddy said that the government was deeply concerned about the need to protect the environment. He said the Commonwealth Games Village has been cleared by all authorities and would be built as per their specifications. He also assured that Yamuna would be cleaned within the next five years. The Minister informed that the government had appointed a Regulator in Delhi to monitor real estate so that the buyers of private apartments were not cheated by builders and justice be done to them. However, since urban land was under state government control, he urged them also to set up such regulators in all the cities of the country. He also cautioned against reckless construction which results in cities like Mumbai getting flooded in case of heavy rains.
