Spirit seized

Thiruvananthapuram: As much as 1,400 litres of spirit was seized from the house of Abdul Samad of Thamarakulam in Alappuzha district on Wednesday, the Excise Department said.

The intelligence wing of the department found the spirit stash after questioning Reju Thomas, driver of a lorry intercepted with 125 litres of spirit near Charumoodu. The spirit was smuggled from Tamil Nadu through a major check-post. The stuff was meant for retail sale in Alappuzha district, the department said.

The suspects were produced before the court on the charge of violating the Abkari Act and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
