Demand to withdraw GO on NREGP
HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Programme Officers’ (NREGP) Association has demanded withdrawal of GO 276 issued by the Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department on June 19 re-designating officers as additional POs, as it has ‘demoralised’ them.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the association contended that the GO would result in the NREGP ‘getting sidetracked’ and ‘depriving the officers of their legitimate rights’ as framed in the Act.
The association alleged that the Government had ‘suddenly’ taken the decision without consulting it and that no committee had recommended entrusting of roles and responsibilities of POs to MPDOs. It pointed out that rules had specified POs as the implementing officers of the scheme. The organisation wanted implementation of NREGP in the interest of wage-seekers.
