Bangalore: In an obvious reference to the Income Tax raids on some property developers in Bangalore and the attempts to link them with Janata Dal (S), the former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, on Wednesday hinted that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy would provide a befitting reply to his political detractors in four or five days. “The Chief Minister is Deve Gowda’ son. He will show who he is in four or five days,” Mr. Deve Gowda remarked at a function organised at the party office in Bangalore to include the former Karnataka cricketer Dodda Ganesh and others into the party. He said he was not angry over such things. “Such things are nothing new for me. I have digested the State politics. My strength increases by 100-fold whenever there are attempts to sully my image.” “The visit of Mohammed Azharuddin and joining of the party by the former cricketer Dodda Ganesh has shown that people continue to rally behind the JD (S),” he claimed. Mr. Deve Gowda also referred to the incident in which a farmer tried to commit suicide near his house by consuming pesticide. “What can I do in such cases. In fact, I helped him once by asking the Hassan Superintendent of Police to intervene and get his tractor released which had been seized by a financial company.”
Mr. Deve Gowda suggested that a public debate be initiated on the issue of land grabbing. He expressed confidence that his son was capable of making a proper reply to such a debate. “If he cannot reply to such a discussion, he should come out of the Government by stepping down,” he remarked. Film star “Tennis” Krishna, TV artiste Ramesh Pandit and Congress leader Panchakshara Reddy joined the party on the occasion.
