On a new canvas

Bageshree S.

Bangalore: It is not very often that artistes can cross over easily from one medium to another. Wonderful singers and painters are often ill at ease in the company of words.

M.S. Murthy is among the few as comfortable wielding a pen as a brush. A painter and muralist of repute, he has written poems, essays and columns for newspapers. He has also done research on child art for over a decade which he will soon be submitting as a thesis for his D.Lit. degree.

Mr. Murthy’s essays, which have appeared in magazines and newspapers over the years, are now being released in a collection called Desi Nagu. The book has an introduction by critic H.S. Raghavendra Rao.

In the back cover blurb, writer U.R. Ananthamurthy says that the essays are simple without being simplistic.

The book, an Abhinava publication, will be released on July 2 at Nayana Auditorium at 5.30 p.m.
