KOZHIKODE: Officials attached to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) here on Thursday arrested a person hailing from Pullur in Kanhangad in Kasaragod district on the charge of involvement in hawala dealings in north Kerala. Officials said E. Muneer, 38, was one of the beneficiaries of the fake currency of Rs. 20 lakh that the DRI officials had seized from a passenger who arrived from Dubai at the Karippur airport in April. Khader Abdul Majeed, of Uppala in Kasaragod district, was then nabbed from the airport following a tip-off. The counterfeit currency notes were printed in Pakistan, officials said. Muneer was produced before Kozhikode Chief Judicial Magistrate E. Francis on Thursday. He was remanded to judicial custody till July 12. Sources said the accused was actively involved with a fundamentalist outfit at Kanhangad.
