Out of required 11 lakh quintals, only 5.5 lakh supplied Crop insurance settlements by NAIC urged
ANANTAPUR: The district units of Telugu Desam Party and the two Left parties, CPI and CPI(M), have given separate calls for district bandh on June 30 in protest against State Government’s neglect of the groundnut seed problem. The two Left parties took the decision after a joint meeting here on Thursday. Speaking to newspersons, district president of TDP V. Hanumantharaya Chowdary alleged that the Government had no foresight on the issue. Disbursal
Had the authorities concerned procured enough quantities of seed groundnut in May itself the problem would have been avoided, he felt. Besides, the requirement was also not assessed practically. Against the need of 11 lakh quintals of groundnut seed after a near total crop failure during the last kharif season, the Government had decided to supply only 5.5 lakh quintals. But, it had failed to procure even that quantity in advance, he alleged. On the other hand, district secretaries of CPI and CPI(M) M.V. Ramana and G. Obulakonda Reddy demanded supply of at least ten bags of seed to the farmers with five acres or more land. Input subsidy
They also urged the Government to take steps for finalisation of the crop insurance settlements by the National Agriculture Insurance Corporation and its immediate disbursement. Those who were not covered under the insurance scheme or those who would not get the benefit in spite of insuring the crop be given input subsidy.
