BJP demands CBI probe into blast

Lucknow: Demanding a CBI probe into the explosion at slain BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai’s residence in Ghazipur, BJP members on Thursday created noisy scenes in the UP Legislative Council and sat on a dharna in the Well of the House.

Raising the matter during Zero Hour through an adjournment notice, BJP leaders said the arrest of Mr. Rai’s nephew and main witness in his murder case Manoj Rai was an attempt by mafia elements to weaken the case being probed by the CBI.

BJP leader Nepal Singh said that the way in which police had given its final report within 24 hours on the FIR against the main accused Mukhtar Ansari alleging his involvement in the explosion, raised doubts and it should be probed thoroughly. The police officers are hand in gloves with the mafia and only a CBI probe could unravel the mystery of explosion, he said alleging that the state government was shielding the main accused.
