WELFARE MEASURES: Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy congratulating a beneficiary of the loan scheme in Puducherry on Thursday.
Puducherry: Welfare Minister M. Kandasamy has said that he will soon conduct a meeting with the Social Welfare Department officials to ascertain the pace of implementation of the three per cent quota for the physically challenged persons in employment and in educational institutions here. Distributing loans of about Rs. 68.91 lakh to 99 physically challenged persons under a scheme operated by the Corporation for Development of Women and Physically Challenged Persons to promote self-employment projects here on Thursday, Mr. Kandasamy said that the Welfare Department would supply 10-kg free rice to each of the physically challenged persons. ‘No delay’
He said that there should be no delay on the part of the machinery in implementing welfare schemes for the under privileged. A. Namassivayam, Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister, said that the Government’s welfare schemes should reach out to the targeted sections without delay and there should be active participation by the officials. Legislators M.A.S. Subramanian and R .Siva and Managing Director of the Corporation R. V. Swathantrakumari also spoke. Loans for self-employment projects would also be distributed to 30 physically challenged persons from Karaikal, a release from the Corporation said.
