Two lorries with rice seized
Correspondent
Kakinada: Special teams of the Civil Supplies Department, during its surprise checks on godowns in the new port area here on Thursday, seized two lorries with rice on the suspicion that the consignment was meant for food-for-work scheme but being diverted clandestinely for export.
As many as one hundred lorries were subjected to thorough screening.
Stocks in two godowns were also verified by over 30-member team.
District Supply Officer P.D. Prakasa Rao said that they found prima facie evidence indicating that the rice in the two lorries was meant for the welfare scheme.
He said the rice belonged to a Delhi-based export house.
A godown in Valasapakala area was also being verified in this connection.
Investigation is on.
