HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has directed the officials to get ruthless with hoarders and adopt market intervention methods to check price rise. Reviewing the prices of essential commodities here on Thursday, Dr. Reddy asked officials to intensify raids on hoarders and black-marketers. Stocks seized thus should be released into the market to bring down prices, he said. He directed the officials to cancel trade licenses of hoarders if necessary. Pointing out that the Government machinery had a major role in checking prices of essential commodities, he added that effective functioning of Public Distribution System would ensure availability of the commodities at proper prices. He was informed that 1,071 raids had been conducted so far to check hoarding of essential commodities. In all, 335 cases had been booked and 3.70 lakh quintals of pulses worth Rs.73 crore had been seized. He sought a continuous monitoring of prices by the Civil Supplies and Vigilance and Enforcement Departments.
