Medicinal and aromatic plants around temples

Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Endowments Minister J. Ratnakar Rao on Thursday said the Government would consider a proposal to grow medicinal and aromatic plants in temple lands. The proposal was mooted by K.V. Keshavulu, chairman and K. Narasimha Reddy, director of Swami Ramananda Tirtha Memorial Committee at the 87th birth anniversary celebrations of former Prime Minister late P.V. Narasimha Rao here.

Spreading awareness

Mr. Ratnakar Rao said that given the expertise the memorial committee had in training farmers to make them grow medicinal and aromatic plants, an endeavour like this would probably improve awareness levels in the common man.

Roads and Buildings Minister T. Jeevan Reddy said awareness levels among people needed to be improved. Paying tributes to the former Prime Minister, he said his name was synonymous with economic reforms in the country.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Mr. Keshavulu said the memorial committee’s activities included training and skill upgradation of underprivileged people, especially women, to make a decent living.

Mr. Jeevan Reddy inaugurated an Ayurvedic medical camp, while Mr. Ratnakar Rao threw open a photo exhibition on the life of Narasimha Rao.
