Ludhiana: Keeping in view the rising input cost and declining profitability, the Punjab Government has asked the Commission for Agricultural Cost and Prices (CACP) to fix Minimum Support Price for wheat at Rs 1015 per quintal for the next rabi season. “We have suggested the CACP to raise MSP for wheat to Rs 1015 per quintal for the rabi season 2007-08 compared to the MSP, including bonus of Rs 850 per quintal given to farmers during rabi season of 2006-07,” a senior officer in the State Agriculture Department told PTI. While terming it as “realistic price” for farmers, the State Government told senior officials of CACP, in a recently held meeting, that the demanded MSP of Rs 1015 has been arrived after taking several factors into consideration.
