Staff Reporter

Intel technology comes in handy

Company will target personal and SOHO segments

To increase the number of retail outlets to 300

NEW DELHI: Personal computer manufacturer Acer on Thursday launched four new notebooks, two each in personal and commercial segments, based on Intel’s latest generation Intel Centrino Duo processor technology.

The sleek and new design notebooks — Aspire Gemstone (for personal users) and Travel Mate Profile (for business users) — come with greater battery life and new security and multimedia features.

‘Empowering key’

The Aspire Gemstone comes with enhanced multimedia features, including the Dolby home theatre for virtual surround sound effect, ‘empowering key’ for enhanced security and touch-sensitive media keys. It comes with 15.4 inch TFT screen, eight-cell battery and a camera. Its two models are priced at Rs. 64,999 and Rs. 69,999 (excluding taxes).

Similarly, the Travel Mate Profile comes with 14.1 inch and 12.1 inch TFT screens, Vista Business operating system, enhanced security features and video conference solution.

The two models have been priced at Rs. 59,999 and Rs. 69,999 (excluding taxes). The new notebooks will be available across India in the next two weeks.

Stating that the company would be launching more notebooks based on the new platform this year, Acer India Managing Director W. S. Mukund said Intel’s new technology had helped boost the performance of the new notebooks. “The new notebooks have been specifically designed keeping in mind the needs of consumer and commercial market,” he added.

According to Acer India General Manager (Sales and Marketing) S. Rajendran, the company would target personal and SOHO (small office/home office) users for the Aspire Gemstone series, while small and medium enterprises besides the corporate sector would be the main focus for the commercial series. “Besides selling through big retailers, the new notebooks will be available through our retail outlets and resellers. This year, we plan to increase the number of retail outlets from 250 to 300 besides adding more resellers,” he added.
