NEW DELHI: Qualifier Ankita Bhambri beat wild card entrant Tugce Dogan of Turkey 6-4, 6-2 in the first round of the $25,000 ITF women’s Challenger tournament at Istanbul, Turkey. Ankita’s younger sister Sanaa, however, went down 1-6, 6-3, 2-6 to the fourth-seeded Maria-Fernanda Alves of Brazil in the first round. In doubles, the Bhambri sisters and the duo of Rushmi Chakravarthi and Isha Lakhani lost in the quarterfinals. Other results: Doubles (quarterfinals): Monique Adamczak (Aus) and Tetiana Luzhanska (Ukr) beat Rushmi Chakravarthi and Isha Lakhani 4-6, 6-3, 6-0; Anna Gerasimou (Gre) and Farida Karaieva (Ukr) bt Ankita and Sanaa 6-2, 0-6, 7-5.
