Aditya Mehta shocks Alok

MUMBAI: Aditya Mehta infused excitement into the quarterfinal phase of the Nahar Group-MIG all-India invitation snooker, stunning India No. 1 Alok Kumar 3-2 in Group A league here on Thursday.

The junior India cueist won the fifth frame with a 67-break for a 76-34, 64-1, 14-74, 33-71, 92-2 victory and topped his group.

The latter, also qualifying for the quarterfinals with two wins, was edged into second place in the Rs. 2.5-lakh event.

Geet Sethi joined the two in the next stage with three consecutive wins, defeating Shravan Mohta 9-59, 65-44, 71-27, 77-30 to top Group B.

Mehta led 2-0 against Alok, aided by a 52 break in the second frame, the latter came back by snatching the next two frames to force a thrilling decider.

Yasin Merchant and Manan Chandra notched up second wins. The results (pre-quarterfinal league):
