HYDERABAD: Koneru Humpy won the HSG Open international chess tournament in Hilversum (the Netherlands) with 7.5 points from nine rounds, according to information received here on Thursday. Incidentally, this is the first ever international title-triumph for the ONGC officer in the men’s circuit. In the final round, Humpy (Elo 2575) outwitted GM Erik Van Den Doel of the Netherlands (Elo 2580). By virtue of this victory, the Vijayawada girl will pick up 15 FIDE points. Earlier, Humpy moved closer to the title by drawing the eighth and penultimate round against Greek GM Stelios Halkias to maintain her half point lead on Wednesday.
