BANGALORE: A two-day feast of Kannada theatre songs is awaiting Bangaloreans on Friday and Saturday. To be presented by Samanvaya Samskrtika Pratishtana, the cultural wing of Chirantana Charitable Trust, the programme will be held at four different locations in the city. The pratishtana began its activities in 1975 in Vittla, Dakshina Kannada district, with an aim to provide alternative music in the traditional Tulu theatre. Founded by Moorty Deraje and supported by Shankar Prasad Kunchinadka, the pratishtana went on to work closely in the areas of children’s theatre and music in the district and surrounding places, according to Chirantana’s trustee Sowmya Lakshmi Bhat. As its name Samanvaya suggests, the pratishtana believes in integration of music and theatre in the lives of people for a holistic development of individuals and society. While the pratishtana works on the scripts with the performers (children), its focus still has been on rural schools. The pratishtana accords importance to the essence of the art and its presentation rather than the technique, property and costume, thus presenting a play with low cost. The programme will be held at Ravindra Kalakshetra from 11 a.m. and at Seva Sadan Auditorium, Malleswaram from 6.30 p.m. on Friday and at the National Association for the Blind, Jeevan Bima Nagar at 10.30 a.m. and at Nandan Smriti, Palace Road, from 4 p.m. on Saturday. Entry is free for all the programmes. For details, call Ph: 9845016447 or 9448893051.
