THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government has revised the pay scales for the employees of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA), increasing the minimum basic pay from Rs.2,700 to Rs.4,500 a month and the maximum from Rs.20,985 to Rs.36,180. The pay revision is with retrospective effect from July 1, 2004, Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran said at a press conference here on Thursday. The pay revision was approved by the Cabinet at its meeting on Wednesday. The number of salary scales is being reduced from the 32 to 25. Fifty-nine per cent of the dearness allowance will be merged with the basic scale. The employees will get a fitness allowance of six per cent, with the minimum amount being Rs.350, he said. They will also get an increment for each four years’ service completed, with the maximum number of such increments being four.He said the KWA pensioners too were being brought under the one-rank-one-pension system currently applicable to Government employees. The pay revision covers part-time employees also. They will benefit by a minimum of Rs.350 and maximum of Rs.3,500 a month. Arrears in pay due from April 1, 2005, to February 28, 2006 will be transferred to the Provident Fund . The arrears due from March 1, 2006, will be given to the employees as cash.
