NEW DELHI: The wait is finally over. Unlike last year when it hit the Capital on July 9, the monsoon this time round has arrived a day in advance. Following the sharp showers in the morning, the maximum temperature fell by 9 degrees to settle at 30.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature also dropped by 2 degrees to reach 26.7 degrees. A senior Indian Meteorological Department official said: “The monsoon was scheduled to hit the Capital between June 28 and July 1, but the final arrival date was complicated to decipher. However, thankfully the monsoon has gathered speed and is here in all its finery for now.” The Capital received 27.5mm of rainfall on Thursday. The forecast for Friday is generally cloudy sky with few spells of rain or thunder storms and one or two spells of heavy rain. “This would mean that the maximum temperature in the city would come down further, but the humidity level in the air will rise,” said the weatherman. The rain also brought along with it the familiar problems of water-logging in the city. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi recorded 93 complaints of water-logging from areas such as Nizamuddin, Lawrence Road, New Rajender Nagar, Roop Nagar, Hakikat Nagar, Jheel Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Khajuri and Shakarpur. The maximum number of complaints were received from the Town Hall area followed by Civil Lines, while no complaints were received from Najafgarh, Narela, Central and West Delhi.
