HYDERABAD: Police seized a huge cache of explosive substances from two places on the city outskirts on Thursday. Five persons, including a woman, were taken into custody in connection with the incident. Police sources, however, made it clear that the arrested persons had no connection either with banned organisations or plans to attack anyone. The seized explosive material included 38,700 electric detonators, 1,950 gelatine sticks and 50 kg of ammonium nitrate. Shed raided
The suspects used to procure the explosives from licensed dealers and sell them to persons dealing with stone crushing units and quarry owners. The alleged kingpin in the racket, M. Ranga Reddy, was earlier arrested on a similar charge and was doing the ‘illegal business’ for the past four years. On a tip-off, sleuths of Central Crime Station of Cyberabad picked up Reddy hailing from Nakrekal of Nalgonda district. Based on his confession, 3,000 detonators and 800 gelatine sticks were seized from his house in Vanasthalipuram. Reddy’s associates, Anantha Reddy and Laxmamma, were also arrested. Subsequently, the police raided a shed located at Lanco Hills, where an IT Park was being developed, in Manikonda of Raidurg. Some 35,700 detonators, 1,150 gelatine sticks and 50 kg of ammonium nitrate hidden in the shed were seized. They arrested Reddy’s brother-in-law Jalandhar Reddy and his associate Veeraiah in this connection. Hunt launched
Investigation revealed that Reddy procured these explosives from two brothers, Ramakrishna and Radhakrisha, who were licensed dealers of explosive substances. They were operating an agency in the name of Rajeshwari Enterprises at Bhongir of Nalgonda. Police raided their offices but the two dealers went underground. A hunt was launched for them.
