Claymore mine spotted on rail track

Staff Reporter

KHAMMAM: A claymore mine weighing about 12 kg was spotted on the rail track near Gate Karepalli village in Dornakal-Bhadrachalam road section early on Friday. Farm workers, on their way to the fields, found the mine connected with a huge bundle of wire and informed the Yellandu police.

A bomb disposal squad defused the mine.

It was suspected to be the handiwork of the naxalites of the CPI (Maoist) as part of their economic blockade programme.

The police said the Maoists could have planted the powerful mine targeting the coal rake which passed through the place around 2.10 a.m. But it did not explode.
