“No court had held Pratibha guilty” Refutes Arun Shourie’s charge
HYDERABAD: Union Women and Child Welfare Minister Renuka Choudary on Friday charged the BJP with carrying a vicious campaign against the UPA- Left parties Presidential candidate Pratibha Patil “out of desperation and inevitability of losing the elections”. Addressing a press conference here, Ms. Chowdhury said that the BJP has come out with its “patently anti-women stand” by blindly opposing Ms. Patil’s candidature and embarking on a mission of harming her reputation. “People are not so naïve to believe such disinformation campaigns.” “Politically motivated”
Dismissing the allegations against Ms. Patil as “politically motivated”, she said no court had held her guilty of any wrongdoing. “Moreover, when she is found fit for holding the Constitutional post of Governor and that of Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha, besides being Maharashtra State Minister there is nothing wrong in contesting for the President’s post”. In contrast, the BJP was misusing the post of Vice-President by allowing Bhairon Singh Shekawat to continue in that post and to contest in the Presidential elections. Referring to the former Union Minister Arun Shourie’s allegation that Ms. Patil was guilty of violation of labour laws, she said, he had no moral right to talk about workers as he as responsible for large scale disinvestment and throwing thousands of workers out of job.
