[The Madras] Government have approved the proposals of the Director of Harijan Welfare to extend the scheme of giving free mid-day meals to non-Harijan students in Harijan Welfare schools to all the districts in the State. This scheme is now in force in seven districts and the cost of extending it to the remaining districts will be Rs.75,000 for 1957-58. Government have also sanctioned detailed plans... for schemes for the welfare of Scheduled Castes during 1957-58 to the tune of Rs.68.44 lakhs...
