Letters to the Editor
Unethical medical practices are a bane of the Indian health care system. They perhaps reached an all-time low when a doctor couple in Tiruchi encouraged their 15-year-old son to conduct a Caesarian section and filmed the procedure on video to be shown to fellow doctors. The act, and the motive behind it, was diabolical as it was not just about parents who wanted to be proud of their offspring’s achievement. That they allowed a boy in his teens to view the labour pangs of a 20-year-old woman reflects their perverse mindset. A doctor should not trample on the dignity of his patients even if they are poor. In this context, the doctor who admitted to his ‘role’ in the death of a patient and surrendered to the police is worthy of praise.
