NEW DELHI: Viswanathan Anand consolidated his position at the top of the world rankings after opening up a 23-point lead over second placed World champion Vladimir Kramnik in the latest list released by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) on Saturday. Anand, who became the top ranked player in the World in the previous list released in April, gained six points since then and now has 2792 points. Kramnik dropped three points to be at 2769 while Bulgaria’s Veselin Topalov lost four points for a tally of 2768. While most of the top-10 players suffered marginal losses, Anand made his gains from the Bundesliga competition. Ivanchuk in fourth spot
Ukraine’s Vassily Ivanchuk collected 33 points and jumped eight places to be fourth while Russia’s Dmitry Jakovenko gained 27 to be 10th for the first time in his career. Among the Indians, P. Hari Krishna returned to the top-50 bracket after adding 14 points in the last three months. He moved to the 46th place from 58. However, K. Sasikiran slipped from the 25th to the 39th spot after losing 16 points. Sasikiran’s rating fell from 2690 to 2674. The lists: World (top-10): 1. Viswanathan Anand (Ind, 2792), 2.
