Ransacked: The almirah which was broken open by dacoits in a house in Godutai Colony, Gulbarga, on Saturday.
GULBARGA: At least four masked dacoits barged into a house in Godutai Colony in the heart of the city and took away gold ornaments and cash worth over Rs. 90,000 after assaulting an aged couple in the early hours of Saturday. The police said that the dacoits, speaking Kannada, Hindi and broken English, gained entry to the two-floor house after breaking open the rear door and tied up Gurulingappa Doshetty (82) and his wife Sharanamma Doshetty (72) with a rope. The dacoits assaulted them with iron rods and took away the “mangalsutra” and gold bangles from Sharanamma, the police said. They threatened their daughter Vidyavathi Palki, forcibly opened a steel almirah in the bedroom and took away Rs. 14,000 and other valuables, the police added. Senior police officials including Superintendent of Police Manish Karbhikar, Additional Superintendent of Police Nagaraj visited the spot. A dog squad and fingerprint experts were pressed into service. The police said that they were working on several clues recovered from the scene of the crime and the modus operandi of the dacoits. A special police team has been constituted to nab the dacoits. Gulbarga city was free from dacoity for over last two years and Saturday’s incident has triggered panic among the residents.
