Bidar
Staff Correspondent
They have been charged, among others, of voting for Congress
Bidar: The district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has issued show-cause notices to three of its members in the Bidar Zilla Panchayat for “disobedience”. According to the copies of the notices issued to the media by president of the district unit of the party Baburao Madakatti, the notices have been issued to the panchayat vice-president Jyoti Charan Rathod, president of standing committee on education and health Rajshekar Naga Murthy and president of standing committee on agriculture and industries Ramesh Deokatte. They have been charged of voting for the Opposition Congress in the standing committee elections, opposing the transfer of power in the panchayat from the coalition partner Janata Dal (Secular) to the BJP, not attending meetings convened by party leaders and maintaining regular contact with Janata Dal (S) leaders — Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashempur and the panchayat president Anil Bhusare — and taking the internal matters of the party to the media. They have been threatened with suspension if they do not reply to the notice on time. Reply
Mr. Murthy said he had prepared a reply to the notice and was planning to send it to Mr. Madakatti soon. However, he objected to Mr. Madakatti’s action of releasing the copies of the notices to the media. “Issuing notices to us is an internal matter of the party and he should have kept the issue limited to the party,” he said. “We have not opposed the transfer of power from the Janata Dal (S). In fact, we said the BJP should be allowed to continue in power for 20 months, as the JD(S) has been in power for the same period,” he said. Meeting Mr. Kashempur and Mr. Bhusare were essential in our day-to-day work. The party leadership should also understand that we were meeting a Minister who is part of the alliance in which the BJP was a partner, he said. The issue of voting for the Congress had been amicably settled before the State unit president of BJP Sadananda Gowda and there was no need to raise it now, he said. Mr. Murthy refuted allegations that they had complained to senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha about some local issues. “I met Mr. Sinha as he is a respected leader and we have a long-standing relationship with him,” he said.
