Taking stock: Minister for Textiles Appasaheb Pattanashetti at a meeting to review measures to tackle flood threat, in Bijapur on Saturday.
BIJAPUR: The district administration has geared up to face the possible threat of floods in the Krishna and the Bhima. The district-level meeting chaired by Minister for Textiles Appasaheb Pattanashetti, who is also the district in-charge Minister, voiced concern over the report that Maharashtra was filling its reservoirs to optimum level. Deputy Commissioner V.B. Patil explained the measures initiated by the administration to face any eventuality in case of floods. As many as five mechanised boats had been purchased and ferry inspectors had been asked to make themselves available for quick service at the time of emergency. He said that the Department of Food and Civil Supplies had been asked to ensure that there would be enough foodgrains and other essential commodities. An additional 15 water tankers had been purchased. The meeting directed the tahasildars of all the five taluks to keep regular track of the inflow into the two rivers, and sound alert in advance. They were also asked to coordinate among other departments especially the police and Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Ltd. that maintains Alamatti and Narayanpur reservoirs. Water level in Alamatti dam rose to 514.25 m on Saturday. While the inflow was 42,673 cusecs, the outflow was 9,000 cusecs. Mr. Pattanashetti told presspersons that Maharashtra would be asked to inform about the possible water discharge from its reservoirs at least 48 hours in advance. The State suffered lot during the last two seasons as there was no proper flow of information from Maharashtra. This time, there would not be any scope for reoccurrence of such lapse, he added.
