13 bridges submerged in Belgaum

Belgaum: Belgaum and western parts of the district have been receiving incessant rain for the past three days.

As many as 13 bridges have been submerged, disrupting traffic between Bodawadi village and Nipani (bridge across the Vedaganga), Karadaga and Bhoj Road, Sadalga and Borgaon, from Sidnal to Akkol, Jatrat to Nipani, Konur to Gajagarwadi, and Koganolli to Hanchinal (bridges across the Doodhganga), Khanapur to Asoga (bridge across the Malaprabha and Kumbar Nala), Sultanpur to Hidakal (bridge across the Hiranyakeshi) and Ugar to Kudachi (bridge across the Krishna), Superintendent of Police Hemant Nimbalkar said here on Saturday.

He said the district administration and the police were ready to face any eventualities. Meanwhile, reports received here said at least 36 sheep drowned in the Bachihole Nala in Khanapur taluk and 80 houses were damaged in the district. Shobha Ashok Golappanavar and Ulvappa Udappa were injured when the wall of their house collapsed on them.
