BIJAPUR: A team of doctors here have removed a safety pin that had pierced the oesophagus of a woman, without a surgery. Gangubai, a resident of the city, had accidentally swallowed the pin. The doctors could not operate upon her as she had a low haemoglobin level. Her family members then approached the BLDE Association’s B.M. Medical College. The team of doctors headed by R.B. Jakareddy, a gastroenterologist and endoscopist, removed the pin without a surgery. In a statement, R.C. Bidri, principal of the college, said the task was commissioned with the help of sophisticated endoscopes.— Staff Correspondent
