Be positive in outlook, pensioners told

Staff Correspondent

BANGALORE: Those invited, including Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, did not turn up. And unlike the young who could afford to wait, the pensioners understandably did not. Instead, they smiled and went ahead with the function to celebrate 50 years of the formation of their association.

What was inspiring from them was the presence of 119-year-“young” Gandhian Sudhakar Chaturvedi. “Be smiling always. This the best medicine to overcome the problems that you face. Be positive in your outlook,” Mr. Chaturvedi said to hundreds of pensioners gathered to attend the function organised by the Karnataka State Pensioners’ Association on Saturday.

Addressing the large audience, Mr. Chaturvedi, a native of Tumkur and a resident of Jayanagar here, said though his body was aged, his mind was still young. “I still believe in the words of Mahatma Gandhi, ‘Karo Ya Maro’,” he said, and asked the senior citizens to lead a life of sharing with others. “This is what you mean of living a life equally with others,” he said.
