Irregularities at fair price shops found

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The District Civil Supplies and Cooperative Department officials detected several irregularities in public distribution system during an enumeration check at fair price shops in the district.
Following an order by the District Collector (in charge), S. Malarvizhi, the officials formed groups for the process.
They found that 2,533 kilograms of rice, 688 kg of sugar, 895 kg of wheat and 1,541 litres of kerosene were illegally sold using fake bills.
A fine of Rs.57, 211 was imposed on the salesmen in the shops.
According to a press release, of the 17,737 ration cards enumerated, 2,485 were found to be fake.
By stopping supply to these cards for the past two months, 691 tonnes of rice had been saved.
