More water from Kandaleru to Chittoor

HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has directed the Municipal Administration and Urban Development officials to prepare a detailed project report on comprehensive integrated water supply improvement scheme for Chittoor district.

He was reviewing the scheme with Ministers, members of the Tirupati Urban Development Authority, officials of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and Municipal and Urban Development Authority.

The scheme envisages pumping in more water from Kandaleru Balancing Reservoir to Chittoor, Tirupati, Tirumala, Venkatagiri and Gudur to meet the requirement of villages en route too.

The civic authorities proposed a project estimated to cost Rs. 869.20 crore, the maintenance of which would cost Rs. 37.36 crore.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to prepare the report under Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme in Small Municipal Towns programme so that it could get 80 per cent grant from the Centre.
