CPI(M) secretariat to examine facts

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI(M) State Committee has asked the party’s State secretariat to “examine thoroughly the facts” relating to four deposits of Rs.50 each received by the party newspaper Deshabhimani for its expansion initiatives, the party said in a press release here on Saturday.

“Though allegations against this (acceptance of deposits) are being levelled with a particular motive, the CPI(M) State committee was now decided to return a sum [to the depositor concerned] now itself,” the press release said.

“There was a decision [earlier] to mobilise from advertisers money in advance for the expansion initiatives of Deshabhimani. Meetings were convened at the level of all the editions of the newspaper for this and the advertisers had given their promises at these meetings. The funds mobilised thus are deposits that will be returned to the depositors with interest after a specific period. The programme was conceived as a transparent one without any wrong obligations attached to it. In the case of four deposits of Rs.50 each received thus, certain controversies have come up now. The State committee has asked the State secretariat to examine thoroughly the facts relating to the subject,” the press release said.

The State committee, in its press release, also expressed the party’s confidence that its well-wishers would realise the “secret designs of the people who are trying to misuse this incident to shower baseless allegations against the party.”
